El Lagar de Torrijos en el Parque Natural Montes de Málaga

     En 1.791 el  embajador de España en Moscú, Miguel de Gálvez y Gallardo , obsequió a la Zarina y Emperatriz de Rusia, Catalina II, con unas cajas de vino de Málaga. Tanto le gustó que eximió de impuestos a todos los vinos de la provincia andaluza que llegaran a su Imperio. Este hecho fue dando fama a los caldos malagueños y cien años después, a mediados del siglo XIX, la hegemonía de estos vinos en los mercados internacionales era total llegando en 1.880 a una producción cercana a los 33 millones de litros. Se exportaban a casi todos los países europeos y americanos y llegó a representar el 25% del conjunto industrial en Málaga.

    Es en esta época de auge de la producción vinícola, concretamente en 1.842, cuando se levanta  sobre una antigua casa de labranza este magnífico ejemplo de lagar característico de los Montes de Málaga. Entre finales del siglo XIX y principios del XX la filoxera arrasó las vides malagueñas causando la desaparición casi total de esta importantísima industria lo que provocó que el lagar se reconvirtiese para la producción de aceite.

    Está ubicado en la zona central del Parque Natural Montes de Málaga,  en la confluencia de tres cañadas que conforman unos de los parajes más hermosos del parque. En la actualidad es un museo donde se conservan las maquinarias originales para el procesado de la aceituna. Todos los años, entre finales de septiembre y principios de octubre, en la Fiesta de la Vendimia, se muestran en funcionamiento y, por unas horas, el lagar revive los pasados días de duro trabajo.

The Torrijos winepress at the Natural Park of Málaga Mountains

    In 1791 the Spain ambassador in Moscow, Miguel de Gálvez y Gallardo, gave away to Czarina and Empress of Russia, Catherine II, with a boxes of wine from Málaga. Both she liked it that she exempted from taxes to all wines produced in the andalusian province that arrived to her Empire. This fact was giving fame to the wines from Malaga and one hundred years later, to half of XIX century, the hegemony of the these wines in the international markets was total  with a production close 33 millions liters in 1.880. They were exported to nearly all the countries in Europe and America and it was the 25% of the industrial complex of Málaga.

    It was in that time of maximun wine production, concremente in 1842,  when this building was raised on an old farm house, a splendid example of typical  winepress of the Malaga Mountains. Between the end of the XIX century and the begining of the XX, the philoxera razed the the vineyards of the province and led nearly to the disappearance this importan industry. Because of it, the winepress was transform in order to process the olive to make oil. 

    It is located in the central area of the Natural Park of Malaga's Mountains, in the confluence of three streams that conform one of the loveliest places in the park. At present, it is a Museum where are preserved the original machines to process the olive. Between the end of September and the begining of october, in the harvest festival, the old machinery is shown to the visitors working, and for a several hours, the winepress of Torrijos remembers the gone days of hard work.
